In February of 2000, a small group of people, with the backing of the Blanchester American Legion Marion Post 179, decided to form a high-adventure unit. The unit started with four youth from Blanchester Troop 47.
The Crew was originally Crew 47. At rechartering for 2001, the officers' decided to change the Crew number to 179 in honor of the chartered organization.
The crew has grown in numbers as well as experience, focusing on outdoor, music and theater.
